Yet Another GOP Internal Poll Shows “Georgia Is In Play”

May 13, 2020

Newly released GOP polling confirms trend that Georgia Republicans are more vulnerable than ever as scandals grow for Perdue and Loeffler

ATLANTA — Today, another newly released poll conducted for the Georgia GOP further confirmed that, to quote a vulnerable Republican senator, “The state of Georgia is in play.”

This latest polling leak from Republicans comes after weeks of negative coverage for both Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, and follows a previously leaked internal GOP poll that showed Loeffler significantly underwater and Perdue facing a tight race despite his backing from shady outside groups

It also comes after Perdue himself admitted in a private conference call that “Georgia is in play” thanks in part to an “influx of new Democrats” in the state, citing the “increasingly tight races” in Georgia over the past few years. His assessment of his own party’s chances was so grim that Republican National Committeewoman Ginger Howard admitted that “the truth hurts” after his bleak forecast.

Now, as Loeffler is locked in “a ferocious and personal fight” with her opponent Congressman Doug Collins following her stock trading scandal and Perdue is facing growing ethical scandals of his own, Republicans are again forced to confront a reality from their own polling data that Georgia is now “more competitive…than they had hoped.”

“Georgia Republicans have spent the past few months fighting each other and trying to cover for their scandals — not focusing on everyday Georgia families in a growing health care crisis. Given their behavior, it’s no wonder that their own party’s polling shows Georgia’s Republican Senate contenders are in trouble this November,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia.
