WATCH: One-Year Since Inauguration, Georgians Praise President Biden, Vice President Harris’ for Delivering Results

January 20, 2022

Working mom: ‘I’m grateful for the leadership and service of President Biden and Georgia Democrats, and I look forward to what their next year of advocacy and leadership holds for us.’

Today, on the one-year anniversary of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Senators Ossoff and Reverend Warnock taking office, Georgians are applauding the past year of Democratic leadership and speaking to how their lives have improved since last year. Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration and Georgia Democrats, hundreds of thousands of Georgians have gotten back to work, millions of Georgians have gotten vaccinated, and a new infrastructure package could create around 400,000 new jobs in Georgia alone over the next ten years.

WATCH: Jessica Weinstein, a working mom of two, explains how President Biden and Democrats’ Child Tax Credit helped her afford child care

  • My name is Jessica, and I’m a mom to two school aged children – they’re nine and twelve.
  • The last two years of this pandemic have really changed our life in pretty significant ways. I think it has shined a light on the importance of public education and the cost of childcare.
  • And that’s why President Biden, Senators Warnock and Ossoff, and Democratic leadership getting the Child Tax Credit passed was so important.
  • I know in the beginning of this pandemic as a single working mom, it was hard to find childcare and hard to afford childcare. It added a pretty significant burden on my monthly expenses.
  • For this and many reasons, I’m grateful to President Biden’s leadership and the Democratic agenda and that it has had such a positive impact on my family’s quality of life.
  • Also, the vaccine rollout under President Biden and Democratic leadership allowed me to protect my kids and allowed our family to begin to engage in a more normal quality of life. Yes, there’s still precautions that we have to take in these unprecedented times. But we are in a much better place than we were a year ago.
  • Our Senators Ossoff and Warnock have worked tirelessly to advance the Democratic agenda and advocate for all Georgians here whether that be through economic stimulus, which has helped working families like mine, or building and investing in workers and advocating for affordable health care. I’m grateful for their leadership and their service.
  • I’m grateful for the leadership and service of President Biden and Georgia Democrats, and I look forward to what their next year of advocacy and leadership holds for us.

WATCH: Long Tran, a small business owner, credits President Biden’s American Rescue Plan with helping his coffee shop survive the pandemic

  • Hi, my name is Long Tran, owner of Peachy Corners Cafe – a small coffee shop, small business here in Atlanta.
  • We opened up in January 2020, right before COVID spread across our community, and we saw the damage that happened. Many of our neighboring small businesses shuttered their doors for good, and customers became concerned about coming out and catching the virus.
  • A year later, after President Joe Biden, Senator Jon Ossoff and [Senator] Warnock were elected, the American Rescue Plan passed and we saw how that benefited our community through increased vaccination rates; loans, funding and grants to allow small businesses to keep their doors open and new small businesses open their doors; and customers to come back out and enjoy a cup of coffee.
  • So, we thank them for their wonderful leadership and helping us get through this tough time, challenging time, in our community.

WATCH: Travis Reid, a small business owner, says that thanks to the American Rescue Plan, his business is stronger than ever

  • Hi, I’m Travis Reed. I’m the owner of Square One Art located in Norcross, Georgia, and I work with schools across the nation.
  • When the pandemic hit in March 2020, I didn’t know if our company was going to survive. School was closed overnight, and our business pretty much dried up.
  • However, thanks to President Biden and Senators Ossoff and Warnock’s Rescue Plan, we were able to keep our doors open. And this past year we had one of our best ever, which tells me that this economy is booming.
  • Whatever they’re doing is working. So whatever you’re doing, keep doing it because I appreciate it. Thank you very much.

WATCH: Sawyer Kovacs, a student at Columbus State University, thanks Senators Ossoff and Reverend Warnock for helping students get back to normal

  • Hello, my name is Sawyer Kovacs. I am an Earth and Space Science student at Columbus State University. Go Cougars. I began school one year before the pandemic began, and in the two years that it’s happened, there have been so many changes it’s not even funny.
  • But despite the pandemic bringing on the hardest times since World War II, myself and many other students have been able to just push onward.
  • It helps that we pushed so hard for vaccinations so we can get back to the in-person classes and get back on campus. Because true community is not possible, it’s not feasible in a virtual world, and it’s good to have my friends back. I’m an introvert so that’s a big thing to say.
  • But [Senators] Ossoff and Warnock, they’re doing a good job so far. Can’t wait to see what they do next.
