WATCH: Georgia Democrats Host Press Conference Discussing President Biden’s First State of the Union Address

Today, Georgia Democrats held a press conference discussing President Biden’s historic first State of the Union address and the Biden-Harris plan to build a better America. Speakers – including Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Congresswoman Nikema Williams, State Representative Debbie Buckner, and Savannah Mayor Van Johnson – shared their praise for the results the Biden-Harris administration has delivered for Georgians and urged Congress to forge forward on the president’s plans to lower costs and continue rebuilding our economy from the pandemic.

Speakers also discussed how, while President Biden’s plans will lower costs for Georgia families, Republicans have no plan to lower costs or fight global inflation and highlighted how Georgia Republicans’ only agenda would raise taxes on half of all Americans, including seniors and retirees.

“When we take a moment to think about how far this state and this country have come under President Biden and Vice President Harris’s leadership, it truly puts into perspective how much this administration has accomplished for working families,” said Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Just this week, the Republican Senate campaign chair put out the GOP agenda, confirming that the only plans Republicans have is to raise taxes on 50% of all Americans, including seniors and retirees. If the GOP actually cares about lowering costs, they need to throw away their partisan playbook and join President Biden and Democrats in tackling these challenges and building our economy from the bottom up and the middle out. We know that the Biden-Harris administration is working to build a better Georgia and a better America, and Georgia Democrats are proud to stand with them as they continue fighting for us.”

“Progress through unity – that was a throughline throughout President Biden’s address. The president has proven to Georgians that he is the fighter to lead us through this moment together and that, even as we continue to battle against the pandemic, he won’t stop working to build our state and country back better,” said State Representative Debbie Buckner. “The Biden-Harris agenda is a pathway towards prosperity for Georgia and this country, and though there is much work to be done to tackle the challenges ahead, we know that President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Georgia Democrats are doing everything in their power to build a better America for all of us.”

“Savannahians and Georgians across the state knew going into the State of the Union address that President Biden and Democrats have delivered a record-breaking economic recovery for workers, small businesses, and communities across Georgia thanks to the American Rescue Plan. Because we’ve seen the results,” said Savannah Mayor Van Johnson. “I encourage both Republicans and Democrats to work steadfastly towards passing President Biden’s agenda because communities in Savannah and across Georgia are looking forward to the results that this administration continues to deliver.”
