VIDEO: David Perdue Faces Scrutiny for Refusing to Debate Jon Ossoff

November 22, 2020

ATLANTA — Senator David Perdue’s refusal to accept a single debate with Jon Ossoff in the runoff and confront his failure to secure additional relief for Georgians or his disastrous record of working to strip away critical health care protections for Georgians has drawn widespread attention from local and national media. Perdue has also hid from Georgia’s local media during the nearly three weeks since he was forced into a January runoff. Perdue’s continued refusal to answer Georgians’ questions about his record comes during escalating scrutiny of his corruption in Washington following several devastating reports exposing more examples of his self-dealing.

“NEWS ANCHOR: Senator David Perdue in Georgia –– I’m sure this moment from his last debate is probably also still on his mind.”

“Jon Ossoff: It’s not just that you’re a crook, Senator. It’s that you’re attacking the health of the people that you represent. You did say COVID-19 was no deadlier than the flu. You did say there would be no significant uptick in cases.  All the while, you were looking after your own assets, and your own portfolio. And you did vote four times to end protections for pre-existing conditions.”

“NEWS ANCHOR: David Perdue, who you see here, will be represented by an empty podium during an event after he declined to debate his Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff.”

“Jon Ossoff: They deserve to hear from their Senator. And if Senator Perdue doesn’t want to answer questions in public, or debate his opponent, that’s fine. He just shouldn’t run for reelection to the United States Senate.”

“Senator Perdue’s refusal to debate Jon Ossoff is also a refusal to tell Georgians why he thinks he should be reelected to a second term in Washington,” said Braxton Brewington, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Hiding from his disastrous voting record and exposed schemes to line his own pockets is exactly why Georgians won’t be reelecting David Perdue.”
