Trump Vows to “End” Thriving EV Industry In Georgia

June 13, 2023

During his visit to Georgia this weekend, Donald Trump shared a new plank of his disastrous MAGA agenda for the Peach State: kneecap our state’s economic growth by ‘ending’ Georgia’s growing electric vehicle industry. Trump’s promise comes despite the fact that Georgia’s burgeoning EV industry is bringing billions of dollars, thousands of new good-paying jobs, and an economic boost to the whole state – thanks to President Biden and Democrats’ historic Inflation Reduction Act and the leadership of Senators Jon Ossoff and Rev. Warnock.

“Trump’s vow to ‘end’ an industry that is bringing unprecedented economic opportunity to our state shows how deeply out of touch he is with Georgians – and how devastating another MAGA presidency would be for the Peach State,” said Ellie Schwartz, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “President Biden and Democrats have helped make Georgia a leader in industries of the future like EVs, brought historic investments to the Peach State, and created thousands of good-paying jobs. Meanwhile, Trump cares more about scoring cheers at a rally than actually helping Georgians.”

More on how President Biden and Democrats have helped kickstart Georgia’s status as an EV industry leader:

President Biden and Democrats’ landmark Inflation Reduction Act has led to a surge of investments in the electric vehicle and battery industry, including:

  • A $4.3 billion Hyundai vehicle plant expected to create more than 8,000 jobs near Savannah
  • A $5 billion Rivian electric vehicle plants near Rutledge expected to create more than 7,500 jobs
  • A $5.5 billion SK Innovation plant in Bartow County expected to create 3,000 jobs
  • A Solvay electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant near Augusta expected to create “a couple hundred” new jobs
  • More than $20 billion in electric vehicle industry investments and 40 electric vehicle industry projects announced, for a total of more than 28,000 projected new jobs
