Trump Continues Barrage, Working to Unseat Kemp in Brutal GOP Primary

“Brian Kemp will never be able to win the General Election,” says Trump

Donald Trump released a new statement this afternoon attacking Brian Kemp, saying Kemp “will never be able to win” a general election, and continuing his efforts to unseat the current governor in support of his endorsed gubernatorial candidate, David Perdue. The statement is just the latest attack from Trump, who recently cut a $500,000 check to an anti-Kemp PAC (his largest contribution of the midterm cycle), hinted at another Georgia rally ahead of the May 24 Primary Election, and has noted to supporters that MAGA voters won’t vote for Kemp in a general election.

“Brian Kemp is fighting for his political life against Donald Trump and his handpicked candidate David Perdue. Feeling the pressure, Kemp dedicated the past year to enacting extreme and unpopular policies weakening gun safety and censoring what can be taught in Georgia classrooms, all in an effort to win over the MAGA base. The chaotic GOP infighting and four-candidate field is fueling Trump’s intent to force a runoff and unseat Kemp,” stated Max Flugrath, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia.

Trump’s involvement in the race has escalated as the primary battle intensifies. So far, Trump has:

• Released a scathing statement endorsing Perdue and attacking Kemp.
• Filmed an ad endorsing Perdue and calling for Kemp to be defeated.
• Sent his son, Donald Trump Jr., to Georgia to campaign for Perdue.
• Weighed in on hyper-local issues to bash Kemp.
• Held a fundraiser for Perdue at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
• Headlined a rally in Georgia for Perdue, attacking Kemp and noting that MAGA voters won’t support him in a general election.
• Disparaged Kemp as a “horrendous RINO.”
• Appeared in TV ads backed by a $600k buy from a pro-Perdue PAC.
• Endorsed candidates running against Kemp-supported candidates, just to spite Kemp.
• Contributed $500k to an anti-Kemp PAC for TV ads attacking the governor.
