Perdue Claims Trump’s “Done a Good Job…Standing Up to” Russia — Even as Trump Calls Intelligence Reports a “Hoax” and Ignored Briefings

July 2, 2020

Despite bipartisan criticism of the administration’s failure to act, Perdue praises Trump’s dealings with Russia as “the right strategy”

ATLANTA — Following news of intelligence reports that Russia offered bounties to “Taliban-linked militants” to target American troops which possibly “resulted in the deaths of several U.S. service members,” Senator David Perdue claimed today in a Fox News interview that President Donald Trump has “done a good job…standing up to” Russia and has taken “the right strategy.”

So what is the president’s strategy? Yesterday, amid news that Trump routinely ignores briefings focusing on “intelligence warnings about Russia,” he then called reports regarding his administration’s knowledge of intelligence on Russia offering bounties to target US troops a “hoax” despite reports that such information was included in his Presidential Daily Briefing. And still, “the White House has yet to authorize any step” to hold Russia accountable.

Just weeks ago, Perdue previously ignored revelations that Trump reportedly “asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him win the 2020 U.S. election” and “signaled his approval” of China’s human rights abuses. Today, Perdue is once again focusing on partisan politics instead of keeping our country secure.

“Georgians deserve a senator who will put US service members ahead of scoring political points with the White House,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Calling reports on key intelligence a ‘hoax’ and ignoring daily briefings is not ‘the right strategy,’ but Perdue’s latest failure to hold Trump accountable is yet another example of why Georgians can’t trust him to put them ahead of his powerful political allies.”
