NO WAY WALKER: Savannah Leaders, Voters Stand Against Herschel Walker

November 18, 2022

Rachael Gosetti: “This election, for Georgia’s U.S. Senate seat, is about more than politics. It’s about who we are as a state, and who we want to be. And having Herschel Walker in public office, particularly one of the highest two offices we have, will send the wrong message to our children.”

Today, Savannah leaders and voters held a press conference highlighting how Herschel Walker lacks the character and the competence to be Georgia’s U.S. Senator. Speakers discussed how Walker’s long, damning pattern of lies, scams, and disturbing conduct proves he is not fit to represent Georgians.

With Georgia’s Senate runoff election rapidly approaching — early voting begins no later than November 28th in all counties, and Election Day is on December 6th — speakers reminded Georgians why Walker has not earned their vote to represent them in the U.S. Senate and encouraged voters to make their voices heard.

“I’ve been involved in public service for some time now, and in my mind there’s nothing more important than lifting up and caring for the people of the state of Georgia around you — from your constituents, to your employees, to your own family,” said State Sen.-elect Derek Mallow. “That’s why I am disturbed by Herschel Walker’s well-documented pattern of lies and troubling behavior, especially surrounding his businesses, his personal conduct, and the way he takes advantage of the average, everyday citizen.”

“Growing up, my family always tried to teach me the difference between right and wrong. To act with integrity, character, and decency. Those are the values my family instilled in me, and those are the same values I look for when voting for representatives. Unfortunately, Herschel Walker possesses none of those values,” said Spencer DeMink, founding member of the Chatham County Young Democrats. “This pattern of lies and disturbing behavior – especially surrounding his pattern of violence against women – is also well-documented. The choice is clear. I voted early Reverend Warnock in the general election and plan to do it again during the runoff. This election is too important, so do not delay, and join me in voting early to keep Reverend Warnock in the Senate and keep Herschel Walker out of public office.”

“Beyond being a community activist, I’m also a mom to a beautiful three-year-old boy. As a Georgia mother, I want my son to grow up to know the difference between right and wrong and to be honest in whatever he does. To act with integrity, character, and decency. And that is, in part, why we’re here today. I am so concerned by Herschel Walker’s well-documented pattern of lies and disturbing behavior, especially surrounding his pattern of violence against women, and I cannot imagine my family trusting a man like him,” said Rachael Gosetti, a Savannah mother and Vice President of the Savannah Federation of Democratic Women. “This election, for Georgia’s U.S. Senate seat, is about more than politics. It’s about who we are as a state, and who we want to be. And having Herschel Walker in public office, particularly one of the highest two offices we have, will send the wrong message to our children.”
