Georgia Senate Passes Kemp’s Extreme Anti-Education Agenda

Today, Georgia Republican Senators passed HB 1084 – a centerpiece of Brian Kemp’s extreme, anti-education agenda – which would censor what can be taught in Georgia classrooms, deprive children from a complete and honest education, pit parents against teachers, and make teachers’ already difficult jobs even harder. The legislation has been staunchly opposed by educators, teachers, and parents — and comes after a report last year showed one in four teachers were considering leaving the profession due to job-related stress. In response, the Democratic Party of Georgia released the following statement:

“This legislation is an attack on Georgia students and teachers, and government censorship of the worst kind. After years of failing to fully fund schools and now worried about losing his Republican primary, Brian Kemp’s plan is to ban kids from learning a complete and accurate history of our country, and insert partisan political battles into classrooms. The decisions about what our kids learn in school should be decided by teachers and parents — not by politicians like Brian Kemp,” said Max Flugrath, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia.
