RELEASE: Democratic Party of Georgia Demands Brian Kemp, Baldwin County Comply with State and Federal Law, Immediately Stop Illegal Voter Registration Requirements

Will Known Voter Suppressor Brian Kemp Actually Do His Job?

Yet Another Case of Voter Suppression Under Brian Kemp’s Watch

BALDWIN COUNTY—Today, the Democratic Party of Georgia demanded that the Baldwin County Registrar’s Office comply with state and federal law and immediately cease the illegal practice of requiring photo identification to accompany every voter registration application.

The Democratic Party of Georgia also demanded that Brian Kemp follow suit, do his job, and hold Baldwin County and other counties refusing to comply with the law accountable to ensure every eligible voter is able to access the ballot box.

The actions of the Baldwin County Registrar’s Office adds to a growing list of efforts to suppress the vote in Georgia. In just the past few weeks, it was revealed that hundreds of polling locations across the state—214 to be exact—have already closed under Brian Kemp’s watch, and his office restricted access to crucial voting information for Georgians living outside of the United States, including members of the military.

“In Baldwin County, we’re seeing another blatant attempt to suppress the right to vote. Known voter suppressor Brian Kemp should do his job and hold Baldwin County election officials accountable for not following state law. As Secretary of State, it is his responsibility to demand that Baldwin County cease the practice of requiring photo identification to register to vote,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Executive Director Rebecca DeHart. “Brian Kemp can continue to pursue his agenda of wasting taxpayer dollars to suppress the vote, but Georgians won’t be intimidated from going to the polls.”

The Democratic Party of Georgia calls on Brian Kemp to either do his job, or if he continues to refuse, then he should resign.
