ICYMI: Georgians Hear About Generational Investment from Infrastructure Law and Senator Reverend Warnock’s Bipartisan Work for Georgia

December 13, 2021

Georgians continue to hear about the “generational investment” in roads, bridges, highways, drinking water, broadband, and good-paying jobs all across the Peach State thanks to President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, championed by Senators Reverend Warnock and Ossoff and Georgia’s Democratic members of Congress.

Over the weekend, Augusta-Richmond County Commissioner Jordan Johnson praised  “Senator Reverend Warnock’s bipartisan approach to legislation [as] an example of the importance of putting people over politics,” while noting that “if you can’t agree that Georgians deserve good roads, structurally-sound bridges, clean water, affordable internet, and stable energy grids, then you shouldn’t be representing us.” Meanwhile, Newnan resident Russell Campbell wrote that “thanks to President Biden and Georgia Democrats like Senator Reverend Warnock,” residents like him will benefit from “a historic investment in broadband that will make fast, reliable internet accessible for every Georgian” — noting that internet access during the pandemic is now “a necessity for everyday life.”

Augusta Chronicle: Johnson: Bipartisan infrastructure bill is a generational investment in Richmond County

  • As a Richmond County Commissioner, I hear from constituents all the time about how many repairs are desperately needed on our roads, bridges, and highways. Those calls grow louder around the holidays when Georgians hope to safely travel home to loved ones.

  • In my district alone, there are many substandard roads, and Augusta as a whole has at least four structurally deficient bridges that are in dire need of work. Across the state, there are hundreds and hundreds more — 374 bridges, to be exact — that desperately need fixing. These transit issues are serious and persistent, and we can’t wait any longer to address them.

  • Thankfully, President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law last month, made possible by Georgia’s Democratic members of Congress and Senators Reverend Warnock and Ossoff, which will devote billions of dollars to fixing our state’s roads, bridges, and highways before it’s too late—all while creating a generation of good-paying jobs for Georgians.

  • The results of this bill will be “as tangible as blacktop and concrete under your tires, with $225 million of it going to repairing bridges across Georgia.” That includes $25 million in transportation dollars for Augusta-Richmond County alone. And it won’t raise taxes a single penny for middle-class families.

  • This infrastructure law won’t just fix what’s broken — it’ll expand what’s possible for our state. For more than a decade, Georgians have been talking about the I-14 corridor, an interstate highway running right through Georgia, linking critical military installations and rural communities all across the South, including Fort Gordon. Now, thanks to a bipartisan effort by Democratic Senator Reverend Warnock of Georgia with Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, that project is finally going to become a reality.

  • That’s right — the Democratic Senator from Georgia is working with the Republican Senator from Texas, putting their partisanship aside for the good of our communities. Senator Reverend Warnock’s bipartisan approach to legislation is an example of the importance of putting people over politics and should serve as an example to all currently in office or who aspire to office.

  • When it comes to politics, we won’t always see eye to eye. But if you can’t agree that Georgians deserve good roads, structurally-sound bridges, clean water, affordable internet, and stable energy grids, then you shouldn’t be representing us. If Senator Reverend Warnock and others were not in office, this bill — and all its benefits for the people of Georgia — would not be possible.

  • The bottom line: President Biden, Senators Reverend Warnock and Ossoff and Georgia Democrats delivered this investment in Georgia’s infrastructure — with bipartisan support from 34 Republicans who are not from our state. Let’s remember that in Georgia, and demand that those currently in office not put partisan games ahead of what’s good for Georgians. We can build a better road forward together, red and blue, but only with good-faith partners in Georgia who are willing to work across the aisle.

The Newnan Times-Herald: Internet access shouldn’t be a partisan issue

  • Remote work. Tele-health doctor visits. Online school. Zoom family gatherings.

  • Since the pandemic, it’s become clearer than ever that high-speed internet is no longer a luxury — it’s a necessity for everyday life.

  • For too long, reliable and affordable internet has been out of reach for many in Coweta County and West Georgia.

  • Now, thanks to President Biden and Georgia Democrats like Senator Reverend Warnock, that’s about to change – the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed last month will deliver a historic investment in broadband that will make fast, reliable internet accessible for every Georgian. By one definition, more than 30 million Americans live in areas where there is no broadband infrastructure that provides minimally acceptable internet speeds.

  • In Coweta County, many people can’t even get access to landline phone service, let alone high-speed internet. We just don’t have the infrastructure in place to connect people. And even when broadband is available, it’s not always affordable: according to the latest data, among 35 countries studied, the United States has the second highest broadband costs.

  • This has created a “digital divide” that many Georgians are living on the wrong side of. America cannot succeed if our people are not connected – without an upgrade to our broadband infrastructure, rural areas will be left behind.

  • That’s why President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is such a big deal for Coweta County and Georgia as a whole. The bill will deliver at least $100 million to Georgia to ensure access to reliable high-speed internet for people in every corner of the state. The deal will also help lower prices for internet service so that more Georgians can afford internet access.

  • This is a game changer for many folks in our county – especially when broadband access in homes can cost thousands of dollars. Faster, cheaper internet will help our kids keep up in school, provide residents with vital health services, and keep Coweta County better connected with the world. It’s an investment in our entire community; reliable and fast internet opens the door for economic growth, bringing jobs and prosperity that will benefit everyone.

  • It bears reminding that after years of all talk but no action, this historic upgrade is finally happening thanks to President Biden and Georgia Democrats like Senator Jon Ossoff and Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock, who after less than a year in office worked across the aisle to get this done for Georgia. But if Georgia Republicans had had their way, Coweta County wouldn’t be seeing a penny.

  • Every single Georgia Republican in Congress, including our own Representative Drew Ferguson, and every single GOP candidate vying to challenge Senator Reverend Warnock, including Herschel Walker, opposed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal and all its crucial investments.

  • Internet access shouldn’t be a partisan issue – President Biden just recognized our need and brought Democrats and Republicans together to get it done. Those who call Coweta County and West Georgia home deserve full access to the opportunity that comes with reliable internet access. Now, thanks to Georgia Democrats, we’re finally getting connected.
