ICYMI: Biden/Ossoff/Warnock Inflation Reduction Act Investment Is Producing Solar Panels at New Cartersville Factory

April 4, 2024

Every Congressional Republican Voted Against the IRA, including Marjorie Taylor Greene who praised federal investments she voted against being made in her own district.

ATLANTA – In case anyone needed further proof that the leadership of President Biden, Sen. Ossoff and Sen. Warnock delivers for Georgia jobs and our Georgia economy, look no further than yesterday’s Atlanta Journal Constitution article highlighting the solar panels being built in a new factory in Cartersville.

“MAGA Republican extremists are determined to block President Biden’s agenda at every turn until it’s time to take credit for needed investments in their own backyard,” said DPG Executive Director Tolulope Kevin Olasanoye. “Georgians interested in creating jobs and bolstering domestic manufacturing will be enthusiastically voting to re-elect President Biden this fall.”

  • Qcells’ Cartersville factory is part of a $2.5 billion investment announced last year to grow its manufacturing presence in Georgia, which was spurred, in part, by incentives in President Biden’s signature climate and healthcare law — the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The company and the Biden administration have billed Qcells’ venture as the largest investment in clean energy manufacturing in U.S. history.
  • The IRA, passed in 2022 with key votes from Georgia’s Democratic Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, aims to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers. The legislation offers an investment tax credit for clean energy manufacturing and billions more in domestic production incentives to encourage companies to build their products in the U.S.
  • Historically, U.S. solar manufacturers have relied on far-flung, mostly overseas facilities to source raw materials needed to make solar panels. Once complete, the Cartersville factory will be the country’s first to bring a fully-integrated solar supply chain under one roof.

  • [Qcells’ Cartersville factory] started churning out solar panels in 2019, but it’s expanding dramatically and hiring, thanks to the major climate law enacted by Biden and uniformly opposed by [Rep. Marjorie Taylor] Greene and her GOP colleagues… Even Greene, who has bashed Biden’s climate law and introduced articles to impeach him, loves the solar plant. “I think they’re fantastic,” she told E&E News earlier this year. “I support all kinds of energy.”
