Georgia Families Receive Second Round of Tax Cuts Today Thanks to President Biden and Democrats

Today, 91% of Georgia families with children will receive the second installment of tax cuts from the Child Tax Credit program thanks to President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan — and no thanks to Georgia Republicans, who unanimously opposed the tax cuts. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff joined Representatives Bishop, Bourdeaux, Johnson, McBath, Scott, and Williams to deliver one of the largest-ever single-year tax cuts for families with children in history, which experts predict will lift 171,000 children in Georgia out of poverty. According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, child hunger dropped 24 percent nationwide after the distribution of the first child tax cut in July.

“The impact of President Biden and Democrats’ tax cuts will be felt by Georgia families for generations to come,” Rhyan Lake, spokeswoman for the Democratic Party of Georgia, said. “While Republicans did everything they could to stand in the way of delivering these tax cuts to the families of more than 2.2 million children in Georgia, the Biden-Harris administration and Georgia Democrats delivered life-changing relief to help families get back on their feet through the American Rescue Plan. The President’s economic plan is building back our country from the bottom-up and the middle-out, and it’s working.”
