Georgia Democrats to Celebrate Latino Culture at Fiesta Atlanta

April 26, 2011

Atlanta, GA – State Democrats will be enjoying Cinco de Mayo festivities while registering new voters at the fifth annual Fiesta Atlanta on May 1. The event is the largest Cinco de Mayo celebration in the Southeast, and promises to bring scores of Georgia residents to Centennial Olympic Park this Sunday.

“We are looking forward to a great crowd and a beautiful day at Fiesta Atlanta,” said Carolyn Monden, Chair of the Latino Caucus of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “We feel it is important for Georgians to understand that the Democrats are about moving the state forward and not a single issue.  Latinos are Georgians and we all need a new direction, better jobs and a brighter future. While we enjoy the festivities, we will be registering new Latinos to make sure all Americans have a voice.”

Democrats expect to register a thousand new voters at Fiesta Atlanta, Monden explained. “We’re excited about supporting our community during this wonderful celebration. We think that this group will be key to turning Georgia blue in 2012.”

Fiesta Atlanta is the Southeast’s largest Cinco de Mayo celebration. It is a free, daylong festival that includes live Latin music on two stages, featuring national and local recording artists. The children’s stage lineup includes lively, colorful acts including Mexican folkloric dancers, clowns, musicians and storytellers. Artists will be selling handmade traditional crafts while vendors will be selling delicious Latin foods. The festival’s partners will provide product samples and many fun and interactive displays.

Admission is free. Please enjoy the festivities at Centennial Olympic Park on Sunday, May 1 from 10 am to 7 pm.
