Georgia Democrats On Senate Passage Of SB 241 To End No Excuse Absentee Voting

March 8, 2021

Today, after Republican state senators gave in to pressure from conspiracy theorists and passed Senate Bill 241, which would effectively end no-excuse absentee voting in Georgia and threaten millions of Georgians’ access to the ballot, Democratic Party of Georgia Executive Director Scott Hogan issued the following statement:

“Georgia Republicans have reached a new low in their Jim Crow-level assault on voting rights. By stripping no-excuse absentee voting from the millions of Georgians under 65 who have used it safely for years without issue – the majority of whom are non-white – Georgia Republicans are embracing white supremacist tactics while betraying the will of Georgia voters. This was never about solving problems; it was always about stopping Black and brown Georgians from making their voices heard.

“Make no mistake, this fight isn’t over. Democrats will fight tooth and nail to stop this bill and every one of the GOP’s attacks on our sacred right to vote.”
