Georgia Democrats Celebrate 2 Years of Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

November 15, 2023

ATLANTA – Today, Georgia Democrats held a press conference celebrating two years of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law delivering for Georgia. At the Northeast Beltline Trail, one of many infrastructure projects that has received BIL funding, State Sen. Sonya Halpern and Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council President Sandra Lee Williams highlighted the impact that the landmark law has had in the last two years, from creating jobs to connecting communities – despite Georgia Republicans’ attempts to block progress.

“Today we celebrate [the BIL’s] anniversary and the historic investments in our infrastructure, rivaling the significance of Eisenhower’s interstate highway system as the largest investment since that time. While we’re standing in my district, we stand amidst the tangible results of this landmark legislation at the site of one of the transformative projects underway: thanks to the dedication of Democratic Senators Warnock and Ossoff, $25 million in funding [for the Beltline] has been secured, enhancing productivity and safety,” said State Senator Sonya Halpern, who represents SD 39 where the new BIL-funded Beltline segment is located. “Infrastructure should be a priority that everybody can agree on. But despite the undeniable benefits, every Georgia Republican in Congress voted against this. The irony, of course, lies in the fact that vital projects funded by this are benefiting districts across Georgia, no matter if the district is led by Democrats or Republicans…. Georgia Democrats are ensuring that voters recognize the role played by President Biden and the Democrats in this transformational legislation.”

“When President Biden and Democrats passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law two years ago, as a labor leader I immediately thought of three things: jobs, jobs, and more jobs,” said Sandra Lee Williams, RWDSU member and President of the Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council. “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law isn’t just bringing billions in funding home to Georgia – it’s bringing brand new, good-paying jobs. In fact, over the next decade, the infrastructure law is projected to create hundreds of thousands of jobs in Georgia. As a proud union member, I’m dedicated to fighting for families and for the quality, good-paying jobs that sustain them. And I’m happy to say that on that account, President Biden and Democrats have delivered with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”
