FACT SHEET: Thanks to President Biden and Democrats, Georgia is Coming Back Together for the 4th of July

July 1, 2021

Over the past five months, President Joe Biden and Georgia Democrats have made transformative progress to restore and revitalize our state and country from the COVID-19 pandemic, and now, Georgia is coming back together for the Fourth of July. While there is much work to be done to fully address the lasting impacts of the pandemic and the loss Georgians have faced over the past year, President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan and the Biden-Harris administration’s leadership has gotten the pandemic under control and put our economy back on track.

“This Fourth of July, Georgia is coming back together thanks to the leadership of President Biden and Georgia Democrats – and no thanks to Brian Kemp or a single Republican,” said Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Last Fourth of July, Georgians were separated from one another and living in fear as the coronavirus pandemic surged across the country. After a year of uncertainty and hardship, the Biden-Harris administration and Democrats have gotten America back on track so that Georgia families can safely come together this weekend to celebrate our nation’s independence. Now, we must continue to rebuild from the bottom up and the middle out by passing the rest of the President and Democrats’ agenda to make once-in-a-generation investments in infrastructure, manufacturing, and our children and families.”

After just five months, President Biden and Democrats have delivered:

  • When President Biden took office, America was seeing over 185,000 new COVID-19 cases per day. Now, it’s less than 13,500.
  • When President Biden took office, an average of over 3,000 Americans were dying from COVID-19 per day. Now, that average is less than 300.
  • When President Biden took office, more than 117,000 Americans were being hospitalized from COVID-19 per day. Now, it’s less than 2,000.
  • Since President Biden took office, 300 million COVID-19 vaccine shots have been administered.
  • When President Biden took office, only 41% of students were attending schools that offered full-time in-person instruction. Now, that number is 70%.
  • Since President Biden took office, the average number of new unemployment claims has been cut in half.
  • America has created an average of 540,000 jobs each month since the President was sworn in – the fastest rate in history
  • This time last year, the Fed projected 5% growth in 2021. Now, they have revised that up to 7%which would be the fastest economic expansion since under President Reagan in 1984.
  • A year ago, the Fed said we’d end 2021 with 6.5% unemployment. Now, they’re projecting 4.5% unemployment a full two percentage point drop.

President Biden and Democrats’ Accomplishments by the Fourth of July:

  • COVID-19: The Biden administration has administered 300 million shots. The majority of states have at least 60% of adults with at least one vaccine dose, and 15 states have at least 70% of adults with at least one dose. Covid-19 cases have declined by 90% since January.
