DPG Response to Burt Jones, Serial Election Denier, Becoming GOP Lieutenant Governor Nominee

In response to Trump-endorsed election denier Burt Jones becoming the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor, the Democratic Party of Georgia released the following statement:

“It’s deeply alarming that Republicans have nominated for the second-highest office in the state a candidate who has attempted to overturn the will of Georgia voters. Burt Jones repeatedly pushed the dangerous conspiracies that led to the January 6th insurrection, and he continues to undermine our democracy by spreading lies and debunked claims,” said Rebecca Galanti, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “From his constant attacks on our democracy to his extreme stance on issues like abortion access, it’s clear that Burt Jones cares more about pandering to the ultra MAGA kingpins of the Republican Party than serving the people of Georgia. The question now is whether candidates like Brian Kemp will unequivocally denounce Burt Jones’ election denialism, or continue to let extremism dominate the GOP ticket this November.“

Trump loyalist Jones has spent his campaign fanning the flames of debunked election conspiracy theories and attacking democracy, including pushing to convene a special legislative session to investigate the 2020 election. Jones last year was stripped of his committee chairmanship in the state legislature over his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, but continued to brag about those efforts on the campaign trail.

Jones also holds extreme views on reproductive rights, saying he supports a ban on all abortions, even in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the morher’s life.
