Democratic Party of Georgia Statement on Today’s Jobs Numbers

June 2, 2023

Thanks to President Biden and Democrats’ leadership, millions of Georgians are reaping the benefits of a booming economy

Today, following the U.S. Department of Labor’s announcement that the U.S. economy added 339,000 jobs in May, Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Ellie Schwartz released the following statement:

“Today’s strong jobs report is yet another proofpoint that President Biden and Democrats’ economic plan is paying dividends for the Peach State. Georgians are already seeing the results of President Biden’s economic leadership: the job market is booming and Georgia is becoming a leader in green jobs and the industries of the future, from the largest community solar investment in history to brand-new electric vehicle and battery manufacturing plants. That means not only thousands more good-paying jobs, but also economic growth that will benefit every single Georgian.

“The numbers speak for themselves: President Biden and Vice President Harris are building an economy that works from the bottom up and the middle out, and there’s even more progress to be made when we re-elect them to finish the job.”

Here’s a look at the economic progress our country has made thanks to President Biden and Democrats’ leadership:

  • The US economy added 339,000 jobs in May – up from 294,000 in April and far exceeding the 190,000 that economists were expecting.
  • A record 13 million jobs have been created since President Biden took office, including more than 800,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs.
  • The share of working age Americans in the workforce is at its highest level in 16 years.
  • The unemployment rate has been under 4 percent for 16 months in a row – the longest stretch of low unemployment since the 1960s.
  • Overall wage growth is rising faster than it has in years for earners on the lowest end of the wage scale, up 4.3 percent in the last year.
  • Inflation has fallen for 10 months in a row and is down more than 40 percent since last summer.
