Democratic Party of Georgia Statement on Inflation Reduction Act

August 16, 2022

Today, President Joe Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act, legislation that will help reduce inflation and lower costs for Georgia families – and does not raise taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 a year. Democratic Party of Georgia Chairwoman Nikema Williams issued the following statement:

“Today is a historic day, as President Biden signs a transformative piece of legislation that will lower the cost of prescription drugs, health care, and energy for Georgians, take decisive action on climate change, and finally make big corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share in taxes – all without raising taxes a single cent for anyone earning less than $400,000 a year.

“Like any budget, the Inflation Reduction Act is a statement of values. This bill makes the values of the Democratic Party clear: Lowering costs for working families. Taking on special interests to fight inflation. Making health care more accessible and affordable for those who need it most. Creating good-paying union jobs while reducing the deficit. Despite the opposition of Georgia Republicans, Democrats have fought for and secured huge wins for Georgia families, Georgia seniors, and Georgia jobs.

“Thanks to the work of leaders like Reverend Raphael Warnock – who helped secure life-saving health care provisions to cap the cost of insulin for seniors on Medicare and lower the cost of prescription drugs – big pharma and special interests lost, and Georgians notched a generational victory.”
