Democratic Party of Georgia Statement on Agriculture Commissioner Race

Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, issued the following statement on Georgia’s race for Agriculture Commissioner:

“The Democratic Party of Georgia is incredibly proud to support Nakita Hemingway, a fifth-generation farmer committed to our state’s agricultural community. As Agriculture Commissioner, she’ll fight to eradicate childhood hunger in Georgia, work to jumpstart our farmers’ economic recovery, and stand up for local farms every step of the way.

“The contrast between Nakita and her opponent could not be starker. Tyler Harper is an ultra-MAGA Republican – he has spread baseless right-wing conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election and sought to undermine our democracy. He has been on the wrong side of every issue that matters to Georgians – sponsoring legislation that makes it harder for Georgians to vote, bans abortion, and allows more guns on our streets. He has made it easier for processing plants to dump industrial waste in our communities and harder to hold them accountable. 

“Democratic leaders and grassroots across the state will be working nonstop to get out the vote for Nakita and all of our Democratic candidates up and down the ticket.”
