Collins Praises Trump’s Reckless Record Abroad — While Completely Ignoring Coronavirus Crisis At Home

August 27, 2020

With hundreds of thousands unemployed and Georgia facing high infection rates, Collins focuses on scoring political points with White House

ATLANTA — Today, after being accidentally declared the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate over establishment-backed “political mega-donor” Senator Kelly Loeffler, Congressman Doug Collins praised President Donald Trump’s record of deference to authoritarians like the leaders of Russia and China as part of the Republican National Convention — while completely ignoring the ongoing coronavirus crisis in Georgia and Trump’s own reckless foreign policy record.

What Collins failed to mention was Trump’s failure to respond to reports of Russia offering bounties to “Taliban-linked militants” to target American troops which possibly “resulted in the deaths of several U.S. service members.” And Collins was similarly silent after revelations that Trump reportedly “asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him win the 2020 U.S. election” and “signaled his approval” of China’s human rights abuses.

Collins wouldn’t comment on the deteriorating situation back home in Georgia either. Instead, he spent his remarks ignoring the surging pandemic that has made Georgia “among [the] worst states in the nation for new Covid-19 cases” and left hundreds of thousands unemployed across the state.

“Congressman Doug Collins showed just how out-of-touch he is with Georgia families struggling during an ongoing recession and global pandemic,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Now more than ever, Georgians need leaders focused on fixing the problems facing our state during this unprecedented crisis, not focused on rewriting the record to score points with the White House.”
