Collins Claims Media “Greater Threat” Than Enemy Governments As He Refuses to Condemn Trump’s Reported Attacks on Fallen Troops

After reports that Trump referred to fallen servicemembers as “losers” and “suckers,” Collins attacks press and dismisses disgraceful remarks

ATLANTA — After reports emerged about President Donald Trump reportedly calling fallen US servicemembers “losers” and “suckers” and refusing to visit a cemetery where American troops were laid to rest, Congressman Doug Collins was quick to downplay the appalling remarks — while claiming that the media “is a greater threat to our democracy” than any foreign enemy government:

Collins’ defense of these disgraceful remarks should come as no surprise. Collins previously also refused to condemn Trump’s failure to respond to reports of Russia offering bounties to “Taliban-linked militants” to target American troops which possibly “resulted in the deaths of several U.S. service members.”

And even as he claims that the “media” is a larger threat “than any foreign nation,” Collins was similarly silent after revelations that Trump reportedly “asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him win the 2020 U.S. election” and “signaled his approval” of China’s human rights abuses.

“It’s disgraceful that Congressman Doug Collins would not only defend President Donald Trump’s reported comments on fallen servicemembers, but would also claim that the American media somehow poses a larger threat than foreign nations like Russia or China,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Our servicemembers deserve better than a politician like Collins who chooses to score points with Trump rather than standing with Georgia’s men and women in uniform.”
