Coalitions Across Georgia Unite in Support of Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock on First Day of In-Person Early Voting in Georgia

December 14, 2020

Today, coalition leaders representing diverse groups of Georgians released statements in support of Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock on the first day of early voting in the runoff elections. Leaders from the African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Latinx, faith, veterans and military families, LGBTQ+, women, disability, youth, progressive, and sportsmen and women communities are calling on voters to take advantage of early voting in person to cast their ballots, as well as amplifying Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock’s plans to make the Senate work for all Georgians.

“Black voters are a key part of the multiracial coalition needed to flip the Senate this January. That’s because Georgians, particularly Black Georgians, know what’s at stake this election,” said Congresswoman-elect Nikema Williams, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “We currently have a Senate that refuses to provide relief for a pandemic that has disproportionately killed Black Americans and is unwilling to pass legislation to address systemic racism baked into our criminal justice system. We must elect leaders like Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock who will do this important work and deliver for Black Americans here in Georgia and across the country.”

“It is clear that both Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff care about the AAPI community. They are advocating for better health care and economic opportunities for everyone, all while making sure AAPI constituents are included and the nuances and diversity of our community are taken into account,” said State Senator-elect Michelle Au. “We need elected officials like them who actually understand us and our needs, and to get them into office, we plan to mobilize our communities like never before.”

“Latinx families have been disproportionately harmed by the GOP’s mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic and the decimation of our economy due to irresponsible reopening decisions and poor planning. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock understand that the Latinx community is a core part of the American identity, and their agendas include crystal clear commitments to uplift and support our communities,” said Deborah Gonzalez, District Attorney-elect for Georgia’s Western Circuit. “Latinx voters will be critical to delivering Democratic victories on January 5.”

“We may have won the battle for the soul of the nation in electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but now we must restore the soul of the Senate by electing Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock,” said Marietta pastor Rev. Leela Waller. “The current President does not have a monopoly on immorality, and we have seen that Senators Perdue and Loeffler are cut from the same cloth. Our country, now more than ever, needs leaders in the Senate who will bring moral clarity and conviction back to Washington and who will unite all believers, regardless of their religion, in the common pursuit of equality, justice, and loving thy neighbor.”

“Georgia is home to over 700,000 veterans and nearly 90,000 active and reserve service members. Georgia’s veterans and military families deserve leaders who will work with our next Commander in Chief to protect our troops and provide resources their families need to thrive,” said former Air Force Captain Bryce Remkes of Brooks, GA. “Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock understand our sacred obligation to care for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and will be champions for Georgia’s veterans and military families in Washington.”

“The LGBTQ+ community showed up in force this November to demand change and helped move Georgia forward. In order to make progress and pass legislation like the Equality Act to protect our community from discrimination, we need to elect Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock,” said State Representative Sam Park. “America needs allies in the Senate who promote love and equality, not hate and division, and who will help Joe Biden pass meaningful legislation to protect all Americans.”

Right now, women across Georgia are struggling. They are worried about the economic future of their families, their children’s education, and even assaults on their rights. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock know that every issue is a women’s issue and will deliver results for women and families,” said State Senator Jen Jordan. “When elected, I know that they will continue to lift women up and make space for women at the table. Women helped elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in November, and we will elect Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in January.”

“The pandemic has hit People with Disabilities and Seniors particularly hard. The Senate’s inaction is a national disgrace. By electing Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, we can have a Senate that will ensure we have the economic relief we need, the health care we deserve, and the hope we crave,” said Vinny Olsziewski, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia Disability Caucus. “We can also trust them to address the other pressing issues our country faces, like employment, wages, and social justice. With Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in Washington, we will finally have a Senate that will do its job.”

“Young voters were a crucial part of electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, especially here in Georgia. Because of our hard work, Georgia had the highest youth voter turnout in the nation and voted for the Democratic presidential ticket for the first time in 28 years,” said Tabari Davis, an Albany State student and youth organizer. “Young people in Georgia have seen the failed and corrupt leadership from our current Republican senators. We know that Jon Ossoff and Reverend Warnock will be senators who share our values and fight for our futures. That’s why we will turn out again at record levels and elect them to the U.S. Senate.”

“Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock are committed to putting this state and country on a forward-looking trajectory of progress,” said Rev. Terence Dicks, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia Progressive Caucus. “They will support the Biden administration’s bold investments in clean energy, ensure a living wage for all, protect workers’ rights, and reform our broken and inhumane immigration system. At a time when it feels like our country is moving backwards, we need leaders who will push our country forward, and we know Jon and Raphael will be partners to Joe and Kamala in doing just that.”

“Our rural communities, our wildlife, and our natural resources are too often overlooked by politicians. But Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock will work to ensure that all Americans have a better way of life no matter where they live, and that the precious environment we call home will remain protected,” said DuBose Porter, former State Representative and Chairman of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “We need senators like them to reinstate clean air, water, and land protections, smartly manage our wildlife, and work to bridge economic, health care, and educational gaps in rural communities.”
