ATLANTA – This morning, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Democratic Party of Georgia (DPG) announced new investments in Georgia as part of the DNC’s “Battleground Build Up 2020” program, an initiative to lay the general election groundwork for eventual Democratic nominees and dramatically grow the DPG’s organizing program.
“Georgia is the battleground for Democrats in 2020, and strong, early investments like the DNC’s are exactly what it will take for us to win big,” said DPG Chairwoman Nikema Williams. “Georgia Democrats have been hustling for the last year and more to talk to every voter, protect every vote, and build the operation that will win the State House, the Senate, and the White House for Democrats this November. When you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready – and thanks to the DNC’s investment, the DPG will redouble our efforts on the ground now, ensuring we have a strong program in place for our eventual nominees.”
“The DNC is making historic, early investments to build strong, multiple pathways for our eventual nominee to win in November and support Democrats at every level of the ballot,” said DNC Chair Tom Perez. “By investing in these states now, we’re putting the Trump campaign on defense, helping ensure our eventual nominee will be able to grow their general election operation as quickly as possible, and helping make sure that every Democrat running for office has the infrastructure they need to be successful. Every week brings new examples of how Donald Trump has broken his promises and hurt working families — and this program will help build the infrastructure we need to beat him.”
Today’s announcement is the latest in a series of national investments in Georgia over the last campaign cycle, including the DNC’s inaugural Organizing Corps 2020 program, which recruited and trained field organizers across Georgia.
