Ahead of President Biden’s State of the Union Address, POTUS is Delivering for Georgians While Georgia Republicans Still Have No Plan

March 1, 2022

Ahead of President Biden’s first State of the Union address tonight, Georgia has made a record recovery thanks to the Biden-Harris administration’s leadership. The president’s transformative agenda has delivered financial relief directly to working Georgians, helped small businesses keep their doors open, and passed a bipartisan infrastructure package that will create a new generation of good-paying jobs across the state.

While Georgia continues to experience record-breaking job growth thanks to President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and no thanks to Georgia Republicans, the Biden-Harris administration is using every tool at their disposal to lower costs and ease financial stress on working families. Meanwhile, Georgia Republicans have no plan to lower costs or fight inflation – instead, their agenda includes raising taxes on half of all Americans, including seniors and retirees.

“Coming off a historic year of record economic growth, job creation, and fighting against the pandemic, President Biden remains focused on the work to build a better America, and his State of the Union address will reflect that commitment,” Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, said. “Ahead of the president’s State of the Union address, Georgians can look forward to hearing about the Biden-Harris administration’s plans to continue delivering on good-paying jobs, economic growth, and lower costs across the Peach State. While President Biden and Democrats lay out their vision to lower costs for Americans, however, Republicans want to raise income taxes on half of all Georgians while failing to put forward a single plan to cut costs for working families.”

Read more about what the Biden-Harris administration has delivered for Georgia and will continue working to deliver, ahead of the State of the Union address:

  • Jobs: President Biden’s first year in office was the greatest year of job creation in American history, with more than 6 million jobs created. In November 2020, Georgia employed the highest number of Georgians ever.
  • Unemployment Rate: The unemployment rate dropped from 6.2% when President Biden took office to 3.9%, the biggest single year drop in American history. In December 2021, Georgia’s unemployment rate fell to a new all-time low.
  • Economic Growth: The president’s first year in office saw historic economic growth and historic job creation – the fastest economic growth since 1984 and the most jobs created in one year ever.
  • Economic Legislation Passed: The American Rescue Plan has had the most significant economic impact of any first-year president.
  • Infrastructure: President Biden and Democrats passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to create thousands of good-paying union jobs, boost our economy, and revitalize our state’s roads, bridges, and highways.
  • Child Poverty: Experts estimate that the expanded Child Tax Credits in the American Rescue Plan kept 3.8 million children out of poverty.
  • Lowering Costs: President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocates millions of dollars for roads, bridges and ports – including $8 million for the Port of Savannah – to make transit more efficient and ease supply chain bottlenecks, lowering costs for Georgians.
    • Additionally, President Biden is continuing his work to make our economy more competitive. The president’s competition council is continuing its progress implementing the president’s executive order to give consumers more choices and lower prices.
