Democratic Party of Georgia Responds to Forced Removal of Journalist at Georgia GOP Event

Atlanta, GA – Today, Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Michael Smith issued the following statement on the forcedremoval of a journalist from a Republican Party meet and greet held Saturday.

“The Georgia Republican Party has been alienating and rejecting huge swaths of the public for years now. They continue to alienate women, people of color, the LGBT community, and immigrants with hostile rhetoric and policies. Just this year, the Republican Party overwhelmingly rejected women and people of color on their Primary ballot. And now—in an apparent attempt to conceal what they say behind closed doors—it seems the GA GOP is purging itself of the press as well.

“A key piece of the ‘GOP Rebrand’ was for the Republican Party to become more ‘inclusive and welcoming.’ But I suppose that when your candidate for U.S. Senate makes fun of people for not having a college degree, your gubernatorial candidate refers to ‘ghetto grandmothers,’ and your Insurance Commissioner blames sick people for getting sick, you’re not quite ready to roll out the welcome mat.”
