As SCOTUS Decides Fate of Roe v. Wade, Herschel Walker and Entire GOP Senate Field Stand Against Reproductive Freedom

December 1, 2021

The U.S. Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments on Mississippi’s abortion ban, an unconstitutional law that restricts women’s reproductive freedom — which Herschel Walker and the entire Georgia Republican Senate field support. And while reproductive rights have been upheld by the Supreme Court for decades, Georgia Republicans like Brian Kemp have tried to ban abortions in Georgia as early as six weeks, failing to do so in 2019 but vowing to “stay in the fight” to restrict reproductive freedom ever since.

A reminder of where Georgia’s GOP Senate field stands on restricting reproductive rights:

  • Trump-tapped candidate Herschel Walker is “strongly pro-life,” pledged to support judges who would overturn Roe, and does not support exceptions in cases of rape or incest.
  • Kelvin King “applauded the ruling” that opens the door to reversing Roe v. Wade and limiting Georgians’ right to make their own health care decisions.

“Today, as the Supreme Court takes up a case that puts reproductive freedom in more danger than ever before, it is clear the stakes in 2022 for Georgia families couldn’t be higher. Georgia Republicans vying to be at the top of the ticket next year, from Brian Kemp to Herschel Walker, are supporting this dangerous effort to undermine Roe v. Wade and strip away the rights of individuals and families to make their personal health care decisions,” said Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Georgia Democrats will continue to do everything in our power to safeguard Georgians’ reproductive freedom and hold Republicans accountable for backing this shameful ban.”
