Unemployment Numbers Decrease for Sixth Straight Week as Biden Administration Continues to Spur Record Economic Recovery

June 10, 2021

This morning, the Labor Department announced that nationwide unemployment numbers fell yet again last week, with 376,000 Americans applying for unemployment benefits. This is the sixth straight weekly drop, as the number of claims has steadily decreased since exceeding 900,000 in early January before President Biden took office and Democrats assumed full control of Congress.

Since President Biden and Senators Ossoff and Warnock took office:

  • Average weekly unemployment claims have dropped by 50%
  • More than 2 million jobs have been created
  • GDP growth projections have doubled

“Our economy is back on track because President Biden and Democrats’ economic plan is working. Make no mistake: the record economic recovery, job growth, and rising rages we are seeing is all thanks to Democrats’ American Rescue Plan and vaccination programs – and no thanks to the Republicans who tried to block it,” said Rebecca Galanti, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “While Brian Kemp and Georgia Republicans’ failure to listen to science delayed our recovery and hurt Georgians’ lives and livelihoods, Democrats taking the lead in Washington has gotten the pandemic under control, the economy back on track, and our lives back to normal.”
