NEW: Will Loeffler Override Trump’s Veto, or Block Critical Defense Funding?

Pay raises for servicemembers and Georgia military funding at risk following veto and Loeffler promise to never break with Trump

ATLANTA — Today, unelected “political mega-donor” Senator Kelly Loeffler has yet another tough question to answer: will she side with President Donald Trump and uphold his veto blocking critical defense funding, or break with the president she’s pledged to stand behind “100%”?

Only hours after Loeffler bragged about the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), President Donald Trump AGAIN “undercut” Loeffler and vetoed the same legislation she had praised for days. This veto means that critical components of the NDAA like pay raises for servicemembers and funding for Georgia military facilities like Augusta’s Fort Gordon are now at risk if Loeffler follows through on her promise to never break with Trump.

Already today, Loeffler has refused to immediately back sending larger economic stimulus checks to Georgians as soon as possible even after Trump’s call to do so. Now, she has a second question to answer: will she stand with Trump or Georgia’s military families?

“With President Donald Trump blocking critical defense funding just ahead of the holidays, Senator Kelly Loeffler is suddenly silent on legislation she’s been bragging about for days,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Senator Loeffler must choose: will she buck President Trump, or block critical funding for Georgia’s servicemembers and military facilities?”
