NEW: “Herschel Walker will not say Joe Biden won the 2020 election”

May 19, 2022

Yesterday, Trump-tapped U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker once again promoted false 2020 election conspiracies — this time, refusing to say that President Biden won the 2020 election. When asked if he thought President Biden won, Walker “sidestepped,” instead insisting that “I do think there was problems and I think everybody else thinks there was problems” with the election.

As CNN reports, Herschel Walker helped spread the same dangerous conspiracy theories that incited the January 6 insurrection — claiming there was “country wide election fraud” and even calling for Trump and “TRUE PATRIOTS” to conduct a “total cleansing” two days before the Capitol was stormed. Walker’s promotion of false 2020 election conspiracies is just the latest in a long line of lies and misinformation from the Trump-tapped candidate — hawking scam ‘COVID cure’ products before the vaccine was available and lying about everything from his business success to his academic record.

WSB-TV: Herschel Walker would not say Joe Biden won the 2020 election

  • WSB-TV Anchor: “Tonight, Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker would not say Joe Biden won the 2020 election, instead saying there were ‘problems’ with that election. Walker made the statement after a rally in Macon.”
  • Richard Elliot, WSB-TV: “Herschel Walker came here to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame for a rally just six days out from the primary election. He was asked if he thought Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election. He did not quite answer … When asked if he thought Joe Biden won the 2020 election, Walker sidestepped it.”
  • Herschel Walker: “Well, I don’t know. I don’t know whether he – I think there was some problems. I do think there was problems and I think everybody else thinks there was problems and that’s the reason right now everybody’s so upset.”
  • Elliot: “Walker has the endorsement of former President Donald Trump and is frequently seen at Trump rallies in Georgia. Recent polls have him with a considerable lead over his GOP rivals, including Ag Commissioner Gary Black, who insisted to me Wednesday morning that he doesn’t think Walker can beat incumbent Democratic senator Raphael Warnock.”
  • Gary Black: “But the tragedy for Georgia will be if he’s the nominee –  because he’ll never be elected and never defeat Raphael Warnock because of all of the above.”

New York Times: Herschel Walker skirts question: Was President Biden lawfully elected?

  • Herschel Walker, the former football star who is running in Georgia’s Republican Senate primary, declined on Wednesday to say whether President Biden was lawfully elected in 2020.
  • “I don’t know whether he” was, he told a few reporters after a speech at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon, Ga. He said he thinks there were problems with the results. “And I think everybody else thinks there was problems, and that’s the reason right now everybody’s so upset,” he said.
  • Mr. Walker said the nation needs to find out what the problems were. “I think right now they’re having trials and having all these, these hearings, but it seems like nothing is ever getting done,” he said. “And that’s what’s so amazing.”
  • Several lawsuits that made sweeping claims of election fraud in 2020 have been filed and dismissed in Georgia, and reviews elsewhere failed to show that Mr. Trump was cheated of victory.
