Democratic Party of Georgia Announces Support for Gwinnett MARTA Referendum

DPG Field, Voter Protection Efforts are Full Steam Ahead for Gwinnett Transit Vote

ATLANTA — Today, the Democratic Party of Georgia announced that, in full support of Gwinnett County’s referendum on expanding MARTA service, the Party will employ their full field, communications, and voter protection resources to ensure that every Gwinnett Democrat turns out to vote in the March 19th special election.

“With this referendum, Gwinnett voters have the opportunity to expand transit and build new economic mobility for our future,” said Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Georgia Democrats are committed to fighting for democracy all year round, which is why we are making every effort to ensure that every voice is heard and every vote is counted.”

DPG has partnered with the Gwinnett County Democratic Party to engage volunteers, talk to voters, and protect every vote in the special election.

“Placing this election in an off month was a distinct effort to undermine voter turnout on an incredibly important local issue,” said Bianca Keaton, Chair of the Gwinnett County Democratic Party. “This won’t stop Gwinnett Democrats from turning out in full force to support long-overdue MARTA expansion to our county.”

The Democratic Party of Georgia’s Voter Protection Hotline is available 24/7 to help voters understand and exercise their right to vote. Any Georgia voter can call the hotline at 888-730-5816.

Early voting for the MARTA referendum starts Monday, February 25th and ends March 15th. Election Day is Tuesday, March 19th.
