Loeffler: I Would Never Support a Tax Increase or Put Politics in the WNBA (Except for the Time I Did Both)

August 6, 2020

Despite ad claims, Loeffler once campaigned for a tax increase as a WNBA owner saying “no other option for creating jobs”

ATLANTA — Unelected “political mega-donor” Senator Kelly Loeffler is out with a new ad today attacking her Republican opponent Congressman Doug Collins for voting for a tax increase and claiming she “never voted for a tax increase and never will” after spending weeks decrying the WNBA for “trying to add more politics to sports” — except she herself has supported both.

As the AJC reports, “in 2012, [Loeffler] and other sports executives were quoted supporting the metro Atlanta [sales tax] referendum as a much-needed economic development tool.”

That’s right: In her capacity as a WNBA owner, Loeffler campaigned for the same tax increase Collins voted for and even said, “There is no other option for creating jobs in this way right now.”

“Senator Loeffler’s campaign is flailing because she refused to be honest with Georgians after getting caught dumping millions in stocks and investing in companies poised to benefit from the pandemic, and now she’s trying to deceive Georgians about her record,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “This is yet another reason why Georgians can’t trust Loeffler.”
