As Trump and GOP press forward with plan to “end” the health care law, neither Loeffler nor Collins have said how they will protect 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions

ATLANTA — After President Donald Trump failed to explain yesterday how he’d “always” protect those with pre-existing conditions, both Senator Kelly Loeffler and Congressman Doug Collins still have yet to say themselves how they would maintain protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions who could lose coverage if the health care law is struck down.

Instead, Loeffler and Collins have stood firmly behind Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett who has a long track record as a “vocal opponent” of the health care law just weeks away from opening arguments in the GOP’s lawsuit to overturn the entire law and its critical protections.

So what have Loeffler and Collins said about health care? Loeffler has claimed the health care law “failed” while voting to allow the Trump administration to continue backing the GOP’s lawsuit to overturn the law in court. Collins, meanwhile, has voted multiple times in Congress to gut the health care law which would “weaken existing protections for people with pre-existing conditions.” He’s also praised the GOP’s lawsuit as a way to “overcome” the health care law.

As a reminder, here’s what the results could look like for Georgians if the Supreme Court strikes down the health care law without a replacement:

• Over 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions could see massive price increases or lose access to care.
• Nearly half a million Georgians would lose their health care coverage.
• Georgians 26 and younger would be kicked off their families’ coverage.
• The CDC would lose an essential public health fund.
• Essential benefits coverage ranging from maternity care to basic prescription drugs could be gone.
