Loeffler and Collins Continue Standing with White House “100%” After Latest Military Funding Raid

February 14, 2020

With Loeffler and Collins locked in a “bitter Republican showdown” to win Trump’s support, both stand behind White House raid of $3.8 billion from National Guard, combat equipment budgets

ATLANTA — Yesterday, “political mega-donor” and temporary senator Kelly Loeffler and top Trump ally Congressman Doug Collins continued standing with the White House and Washington Republicans following the announcement that the administration is preparing to raid another $3.8 billion from the military budget — this time from the National Guard and combat equipment — for its sham emergency declaration, putting partisan politics over our national security and military readiness.

Facing weak poll numbers and mounting ethical conflicts of interest, Loeffler has promised to stand behind Washington Republicans “100%” in a desperate bid to hold onto the temporary Senate seat she bought. Now, locked in a “fierce melee”  as each struggles to win Trump’s support, both Loefffler and Collins are standing behind the White House’s latest reckless plan to slash billions in combat funding.

Even before this latest raid, Washington Republicans already let the administration steal billions from the military budget, raiding funds from projects across 23 states and around the world, even as that funding was not replaced in last year’s defense budget. After the Pentagon already warned of “dire outcomes” from the last funding raid, the White House is set to once again put national security on the line for a political stunt.

“By standing behind this reckless military funding raid that endangers national security, Kelly Loeffler and Doug Collins are revealing just how out-of-touch they are with Georgians’ priorities,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Instead of standing up to for our servicemembers, Loeffler and Collins would rather try and score political points among Washington Republicans as they duke it out in their ‘battle royale.’”
