Kemp’s Health Care Record Leaves Questions Unanswered As His Budget Cuts Leave Georgians Behind

October 31, 2019

ATLANTA – Today, Governor* Brian Kemp releases his sham health care proposal, while Georgians to continue to suffer from his extreme budget cuts and anti-health care.

This announcement comes after months of strong criticism over Kemp’s draconian budget cuts, and in the midst of concern over a Kemp administration supported lawsuit that would repeal the Affordable Care Act and decimate American health care as we know it.

Most of all, Kemp continues to refuse to fully expand Medicaid, instead forcing through an expensive waiver system that covers fewer people for nearly three times the cost. Medicaid expansion is supported by over 7 in 10 Georgians and a majority of Republicans, and is the only solution to spur Georgia’s economy, save rural hospitals, and ensure that all Georgians can access the health care they need.

“Brian Kemp made his position on health care clear when he slashed funding to essential health services and refused to expand Medicaid,” said Maggie Chambers, spokeswoman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “This administration’s dangerous assault on health care will leave Georgians behind as Republicans put their extreme agenda before the needs of our state.”
