Kemp, Georgia Republicans Silent As Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz Bring Their Clown Car to Georgia

May 27, 2021

Today, Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz are taking their Holocaust-trivializing, conspiracy-spreading clown car to Dalton, Georgia, to rally support among the far-right fringes of the Republican Party.

At previous stops on their nationwide tour, Greene and Gaetz spread lies that Joe Biden did not win the presidential election, railed against members of their own party whom they do not believe are right-wing enough, and continued to spout dangerous rhetoric.

Their stop in Georgia comes amid a string of controversies for both:

  • Marjorie Taylor Greene recently compared mask requirements to the horrors of the Holocaust.
  • Matt Gaetz is embroiled in an investigation over whether he paid underage girls for sex and engaged in public corruption to cover it up.

“Figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz have completely taken over the Republican Party with their repulsive antics. Today’s GOP does not care about working Americans – their only goal is to stir up controversy, spread lies, and push harmful racist, nativist, and antisemitic naratives to drum up their base,” said Rebecca Galanti, spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “It’s appalling that Georgia Republicans still remain silent, but this rally presents yet another chance for them to forcefully condemn the right-wing zealotry threatening our democracy. Will Brian Kemp and Georgia Republicans continue allowing extremists to overrun their party, or will they denounce these dangerous characters in their ranks?”
