Republicans’ Extreme RFRA, Abortion Ban Bills Will Take Georgia Backwards

ATLANTA – Today, after his Republican partners in the General Assembly proposed a series of extreme bills threatening the safety of thousands of Georgians, Brian Kemp once again pledged his support for legislation banning abortions and threatening a woman’s right to choose.

During his campaign, Kemp was strongly criticized for his support for an abortion ban as well as his pledge to sign the anti-gay RFRA bill. More than 500 major Georgia employers oppose RFRA, and states that have signed similar legislation have seen an exodus of jobs, conventions, and tourism.

“Brian Kemp made his entire campaign about job-killing policies that will take our state backward, and today, he has doubled down on those promises,” said Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “RFRA and the abortion ban stand to not only drive companies away from our state, but will threaten the equal rights and safety of thousands of Georgians. Georgia Democrats stand with women and our LGBTQ community, and will do everything in our power to fight this terrible legislation.”
