KELLY’S (DE)TOUR: Where Does Loeffler Stand on her Party’s Reckless Anti-Health Care Lawsuit?

July 8, 2020

While Loeffler has pledged to back her party’s leadership “100%,” she still won’t clearly say where she stands on a GOP lawsuit that would end protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions

ATLANTA — Today, as unelected “political mega-donor” Senator Kelly Loeffler begins her statewide tour during a surging coronavirus outbreak, the Democratic Party of Georgia is calling on her to skip the (de)tour and answer a key question she’s been avoiding:

Where does Loeffler stand on the GOP-backed lawsuit to overturn the entire health care law and end its critical protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions?

Loeffler has already promised to back Republican leadership “100%” as her support plummets with GOP voters. But despite her desperate efforts to score political points with the White House, she still won’t clearly answer what she thinks about the administration’s attempts to strike down vital health care protections in the middle of a pandemic.

A reminder of what the White House and Washington Republicans’ preferred outcome looks like for Georgia:

“While Senator Kelly Loeffler is busy on her statewide tour, she is still refusing to answer questions about her party’s efforts that threaten Georgians’ health care coverage with this reckless lawsuit,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “Loeffler said she’d stand behind her party’s leadership ‘100%’ — so why does she think it’s a good idea to gut critical protections for 1.8 million Georgians with pre-existing conditions in the middle of a global pandemic?”
