“Thanks to this financial lifeline, families like mine no longer have to worry about being one toddler bed or one flat tire over the family budget.”
Yesterday, Julia, a working mom from Macon, penned an op-ed in the Georgia Recorder sharing her story of how her family was able to remain stable during financial emergencies thanks to President Biden’s child tax credit program. In the piece, Julia details her support for extending the middle-class tax cuts permanently in the President’s Build Back Better agenda.
Despite Georgia Republicans’ unanimous opposition to these life changing tax cuts, 91% of Georgia families with children will begin receiving this week the third installment of tax cuts from the expanded Child Tax Credit program encompassed in President Biden and Democrats’ American Rescue Plan. Since the distribution of the first round of tax cuts in July, child hunger dropped 24 percent nationwide. Experts predict that the child tax credit program will reduce the state’s overall child poverty rate from 13.6% to 5.9% and that the Black child poverty rate will decrease even further from 21.8% to 11.4%.
