ICYMI: Kemp’s Failed COVID-19 Response Leaves Georgia Last in Nation for Vaccinations

March 2, 2021

Under Governor Brian Kemp, only 12.1% of Georgia’s population has received at least one dose of a vaccine – the lowest rate in the entire nation. This disappointing data comes as Georgia remains under siege from the pandemic, with more than 16,800 deaths and nearly one million cases.

Vaccine distribution is not the only area in which Georgia Republicans have failed their constituents. All of Georgia’s Republican members of Congress voted against the COVID-19 relief bill, which includes direct payments to struggling Georgians and resources for the state to combat the pandemic.

“It’s an absolute embarrassment and tragedy that our state, the home of the Centers for Disease Control, ranks last in vaccinations. When it comes to tackling the pandemic, Republican leadership – starting with Brian Kemp at the top – has utterly failed Georgians,” said Maggie Chambers, spokeswoman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. ”Governor Kemp and Georgia Republicans have been more focused on criticizing and blocking COVID-19 relief for struggling families than they have been on creating an efficient, effective vaccination program. That Georgia ranks among the worst half of the country in terms of cases and deaths as a percentage of the population is a direct result of Republicans’ failed policies and leadership. Georgians deserve better.”
