ICYMI: Democratic Party of Georgia Hosts Press Conference in Augusta Celebrating Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

December 9, 2021

Today, the Democratic Party of Georgia hosted a press conference in Augusta to celebrate President Biden and Georgia Democrats’ passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and discussed how the transformative package will drive an economic boost to the Garden City. Speakers emphasized how the infrastructure law will create thousands of good-paying union jobs, stimulate our economy, and revitalize our state’s roads, bridges, and highways – leaving no Georgia community behind.

“As a member of the Economic Development committee in our State Senate, I can tell you that President Biden’s Infrastructure Law is a once-in-a-generation investment in Georgia’s economy,” said State Senator Harold Jones II. “So the people of Georgia ask, why did Republicans stand in the way of opportunity? Why are Republicans obstructing jobs coming to our area? And we say Georgia Republicans because all eight Georgia Republican members of Congress voted against this bipartisan measure. We promise at every event to celebrate this bipartisan bill – and we further promise to remind voters how Georgia Republicans want to block investment and opportunity in Georgia and Augusta.”

“We’re going to see thousands of good-paying, high-quality union jobs reach Georgia thanks to this infrastructure package. This Bipartisan Infrastructure Law opens the door for projects that are going to employ workers with better wages and better opportunities across Georgia and the Augusta area,” said Glenn Kelly Jr., President of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 8 Southeast. “In addition to President Biden and Senator Ossoff, this would not be possible without the leadership of Senator Reverend Warnock. In less than a year in office, he’s secured investments to provide internet for rural and underserved Georgians, support Augusta, and bolster America’s supply chain. That’s the sort of leadership Georgia deserves, and I look forward to sending Reverend Warnock back to Washington next year.”

“As a Richmond County Commissioner, I hear from constituents all the time about how many repairs are desperately needed on our roads, bridges, and highways – especially around the holidays, when Georgians hope to travel to see loved ones. Thankfully, President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law last month, made possible by Georgia’s Democratic members of Congress and Senators Reverend Warnock and Ossoff, that will devote $225 million to repairing Georgia’s bridges,” Augusta-Richmond County Commissioner Jordan Johnson said. “We won’t soon forget that none of the Republican candidates vying to challenge Senator Warnock support these infrastructure investments. If Senator Warnock were not in office, this bill — and all its benefits for the people of Georgia — would not be possible.”
