GOP Infighting Flares Up As Collins Gets New Right-Wing Ally

While Loeffler, Collins Battle For Conservative Support, Polls Show Both Republicans Losing To Democrats

ATLANTA — Today, the ongoing intraparty war between unelected “political mega-donor” Senator Kelly Loeffler and top Trump ally Congressman Doug Collins intensified as Collins got the support of the radical right-wing American Conservative Union (ACU), the latest group “breaking ranks” to support Collins.

The ACU’s endorsement, which cited the “major infraction” of Loeffler’s coronavirus stock trading along with Collins’ support of the organization’s reckless ultra-conservative agenda, pours gasoline on a raging intraparty fire “that is poised to put Georgia in play for Democrats.” But even as Mitch McConnell and the NRSC continue standing behind Loeffler, polling shows Republicans in trouble across the state, with both Collins and Loeffler trailing Democrats in head-to-head match-ups.

Already, Loeffler and Collins’ scorched-earth campaign has led to political experts moving the race closer to Democrats as Loeffler prepares to pour her millions into defending her bought-and-paid-for seat — even as her own allies go off the air.

“With all three of their Senate candidates losing in the polls, a brutal and expensive intraparty fight is the last thing Georgia Republicans need in this election,” said Alex Floyd, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “As Congressman Doug Collins celebrates another radical right-wing endorsement while Senator Kelly Loeffler floods the airwaves with her millions attacking him, the only winner in this knock-down drag-out GOP fight is Georgia Democrats.”
