Help Move Georgia Forward
All eight of Georgia’s Republicans in Congress voted against a bill designed to make America more competitive with China, create jobs in the U.S., and help lower the price of goods for families
Today, after Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock led the bipartisan effort to pass the CHIPS and Science Act in the Senate, all six Georgia Democrats in Congress voted to pass this crucial economic legislation and send it to President Joe Biden’s desk. Meanwhile, every single Georgia GOP representative voted against it – choosing to side with China instead of voting to create jobs in America and secure our domestic supply chains.
“With today’s vote, all eight Georgia Republicans in Congress conceded they’d rather help out China than folks back home. The CHIPS and Science Act is popular, bipartisan, and will help create good-paying jobs, but Georgia’s congressional Republicans are so extreme that they’d rather give China a leg up than get a strong bipartisan effort across the finish line. Thankfully, despite GOP obstruction, Georgia Democrats in Congress – with the leadership of Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock – helped pass this crucial package to boost our economy and lower costs for Georgians, ” said Democratic Party of Georgia spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki.
According to the Washington Post, the bill that Georgia Republicans voted against today, “would provide $52 billion in subsidies to domestic semiconductor manufacturers…in a bid to strengthen the United States’ competitiveness and self-reliance in what is seen as a keystone industry for economic and national security.” Incentivizing the manufacture of computer chips in America will help to lower the cost of every product that uses them, from cars to household appliances, and protect our national security by working to ensure independence from China and other countries for these critical components.
