Kemp’s top aide abandons post at height of Coronavirus crisis after downplaying the pandemic in March

ATLANTA — Yesterday, we learned that Brian Kemp’s top aide is abandoning his post during a time of crisis to take a cushy campaign job bailing out unelected “political mega-donor” Senator Kelly Loeffler, after joining Kemp and Donald Trump for months of systematically lying about and worsening the impacts of COVID-19 in Georgia.

Months before deserting Kemp, Fleming was busy criticizing medical experts for “peddling doomsday” and local governments for “overreacting” to the threat posed by COVID-19, which has now claimed the lives of nearly 6,500 Georgians. At that same time, Kemp was refusing to issue a shelter-in-place order, later claiming he “didn’t know” that COVID-19 could be spread by people without symptoms even though medical experts and his own advisors had known for weeks.

Kemp and Fleming weren’t alone in delaying the necessary actions to protect lives, following the lead of COVID denier-in-chief Donald Trump. Multiple tapes prove that Donald Trump was intentionally lying to America about the dangers of COVID-19 because he couldn’t handle the consequences of leading responsibly. Now, both Trump and Kemp are traipsing around holding large political rallies, living in a fantasy world where COVID-19 doesn’t exist.

As Tim Fleming waves goodbye to Kemp and his buddies, Georgians will continue to reap the consequences of this administration’s failed leadership. Thankfully, after Georgians turn out to vote on November 3rd, Fleming, Trump, and the rest of their cronies will be out of office.
