DPG Statement on Sixth Congressional District Results

June 21, 2017

Atlanta, GA – Democratic Party of Georgia Chair DuBose Porter issued the following statement on Jon Ossoff’s monumental campaign.

“Tonight, we congratulate Jon Ossoff for making history and for making us a better Democratic Party. Jon campaigned on the issues and listened to the people of the sixth. He inspired a new generation of voters and activists while mobilizing previous generations to get off the sidelines and stay involved in their communities. And for that, we are forever grateful.

“We also want to congratulate the Ossoff campaign team. It has been an honor to work with such a professional, dedicated staff that worked day and night to make this a better state. They always took the high road, and they are now the standard-bearer for how campaigns should run in Georgia.

“Last but certainly not least, thank you to every volunteer near and far who made phone calls and knocked on doors and so much more. We would not have come this far without your selfless commitment.

“This district was not supposed to be in play. Gerrymandering has stolen the power of the vote, allowing politicians to choose their people instead of the people choosing their leaders. Last year, we flipped Cobb and Gwinnett counties from red to blue. Make no mistake—there is a seismic shift on the horizon that will send shockwaves from the U.S. House to the courthouse. Georgians are ready for authentic leadership that believes in the best of us. We’re ready for Democrats to pave the way for a stronger middle class, affordable access to healthcare, and the strengthening of women’s rights. The Democratic Party is a party for everyone, and together, we are positioned to make history in 2018.”
