Battleground Democrats Lay Groundwork to Defeat Trump in 2020

ATLANTA – Today, the Democratic Party of Georgia, along with six other Democratic state parties, all located in presidential battlegrounds, announced that they are already laying the groundwork to defeat Donald Trump in 2020 by joining together in the Democratic Swing State Party Building Partnership.

State parties in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are focusing on building infrastructure, building partnerships with progressive groups, and registering voters. This partnership will be launched on March 14.

Most political observers agree that the presidential contest will come down to these seven states, and Democrats aren’t taking their odds of beating Trump for granted.

“Over the past few campaign cycles and the closest statewide election in history, Georgia Democrats have proven that our state is the battleground for 2020 and beyond,” said Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “We are proud to join our partner swing states across the country to start our grassroots building work now, and prove that the South is not to be underestimated. Together, we will be ready to take our 2020 presidential nominee and Democrats across Georgia to victory.”

National Democrats have already shown that Georgia is a key state for the party to win in 2020. Eight presidential candidates visited Georgia in the last year, and in February, the Democratic National Committee announced that their groundbreaking Organizing Corps 2020 initiative would recruit and train a homegrown grassroots program in partnership with DPG. Today’s announcement will continue the progress made by state, local, and national Democrats to help turn Georgia blue.
