Democrats Avert Republican-Led Economic Crisis

Yesterday, every Georgia House Republican put millions of Georgians’ livelihoods at risk by voting against raising the debt ceiling. Despite Georgia Republicans’ best efforts to jeopardize the livelihoods of millions of Georgia families, Democrats prevented the GOP from sending our state and country into an economic crisis. As Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock and Georgia’s six congressional Democrats work to get Georgia’s economy back on track and defeat this pandemic, Republicans continue to obstruct progress at every turn. . 

Republicans’ partisan political games could have cost America’s economy six million jobs, caused a nearly four percent decline in economic activity, and sent the unemployment rate surging to roughly nine percent from around five percent.

“If Georgia Republicans had their way, millions of families, social security recipients, veterans, military members, and more could be in serious financial jeopardy. The GOP has shown time and time again that they will put partisan politics over people, and Georgians deserve better. But thanks to Democrats, another GOP economic crisis has been averted, and we can continue focusing on the issues that matter: defeating the pandemic, rebuilding our economy, and getting Georgia back on track to win the 21st century,” Rhyan Lake, spokeswoman for the Democratic Party of Georgia, said.
