Democratic Party of Georgia Statement on Signing of Respect for Marriage Act

Today, in celebration of President Biden signing the Respect for Marriage Act into law, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:

“Georgia Democrats celebrate today’s signing of the Respect for Marriage Act and the landmark victory for equality it represents. Thanks to the support of President Biden and every Georgia Democrat in Congress – and no thanks to Georgia Republicans, who unanimously voted against protecting same-sex and interracial marriages – couples across Georgia can rest easier knowing that their marriages will be protected across state lines and under federal law. Georgia Democrats are proud of this crucial step forward for marriage equality, but we know there is more work to do. We will not stop until the right to marry and start a family with who you love is enshrined into law, and we will always stand with our LGBTQ community in the ongoing march toward a more just and equal future.”
