Democratic Party of Georgia Statement on Close of 2019 Legislative Session

April 3, 2019

ATLANTA – Today, upon adjournment Sine Die of the Georgia General Assembly, Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Nikema Williams issued the following statement:

“The extreme laws coming out of this year’s legislative session showed us one thing: elections matter. After the closest election in Georgia history and unprecedented levels of voter suppression, Brian Kemp brought his hate-filled agenda to the Governor’s Mansion, and Georgia Republicans have gone along with it. From sidelining long-overdue hate crimes legislation to taking our state backwards with the abortion ban, Republican lawmakers have chosen again and again to force these extreme bills down our throats, instead of fighting for our shared values as Georgians. After historic levels of engagement and activism this session, Republicans do this because they know that their days are numbered – and we will see them at the ballot box.”
